Iain is available for lecture presentations:
Successful elections in June 2005 marked a new stage in a remarkably successful
8 year process that brought peace to what seemed to be an intractable conflict
situation on Bougainville Island, a province of the south west Pacific state
of Papua New Guinea. This little known success story was partly the result of
the work of the international community's first ever unarmed peace keeping operation,
which found innovative ways to work with the people of Bougainville to foster
peace and disarmament.
Iain Campbell Smith worked for the peacekeepers as a diplomat, radio broadcaster
and musician whose peace songs became famous on the Island. His work on Bougainville
is the subject of the documentary film Bougainville Sky.
Iain is currently conducting a lecture tour on the Bougainville peace process
and the lessons it offers for the international community. For more information
